Academic Arabic Programme

[Please note that this programme is currently suspended; more information will be provided here in 2017]

This programme offers advanced language training to established academic researchers who work on the Arab world. While existing initiatives target beginners and intermediate students of Arabic, the CBRL Academic Arabic Programme caters to the specific needs of lecturers, professors, and post-doctoral researchers who have reached a high level of proficiency and use Arabic sources for their research, but who would benefit from the opportunity to refresh their language skills.

ifpoConducted entirely in Arabic, this two-week course offers a combination of content-based discussion on various topics in Arab history, culture and society, and sessions designed to hone general language proficiency (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). The programme aims to replicate the intellectual environment of a university seminar held in Arabic, rather than traditional pedagogical instruction.

CBRL Arabic Bursaries cover the cost of full tuition, air travel, and accommodation for participants in the CBRL Academic Arabic Programme. To be eligible for a bursary, applicants should be members of academic staff at a UK university, or academic staff (faculty) with a UK PhD and a CBRL member. Full details are provided in the Guidance Notes.
